Microsoft Signature Edition PC

Looking for a Microsoft Signature Edition PC? This Is What To Do. Microsoft's Signature Edition PCs are one of the best offers from the Microsoft Store because Microsoft uses a clean copy of Windows without bloatware on this PC. Buying a PC is often equipped with more than you pay
Booting a new store-bought PC usually starts with joy, followed quickly by disappointment. At first blush, Windows seems clean and intact, and then suddenly the trial antivirus opens. He wants you to pay for it, install another program, and just as you ignore the notification, the game you didn't ask made his presence known. Your computer may be new and fast, but somehow it feels dirty.

Microsoft used to offer the perfect solution: Buy a typical PC, and you won't get a machine loaded with bloatware. Microsoft boasted at one point that their PC would start 104% faster and turn off 35% faster than PCs that are not Signature. You can only see these numbers from the Wayback Machine because Microsoft no longer encourages PC Signature.

So, you have four choices if you want a clean Windows PC:
  • Use the Microsoft Fresh Start Tool to remove trash
  • Buy Surface devices
  • Build a PC
  • Clean the initial installation of Windows with the Media Creation Tool

Let's see.

Use the Microsoft Fresh Start Tool on Any PC

Microsoft fresh start tool.

Starting with Windows 8, Microsoft introduced the "Reset Your PC" option to delete all your programs and return your rig to "like the first launch". The problem is that this new launch includes all the bloatware that comes with your system.

Thankfully Microsoft then introduced Fresh Start, a tool that will remove all nonstandard desktop programs for Windows. Be it an antivirus or Office application, this tool will delete it. There are several disadvantages to using this tool. You might lose a specific driver for your machine, for example. And while the tool might delete traditional desktop programs, it won't delete any Universal Windows Platform (UWP) applications from your computer.

That means if your bloatware comes in the form of a UWP Application - as opposed to traditional Windows desktop applications - this option won't help you. Considering that even Microsoft is installing an application that we don't want now, the Fresh Start tool is not easy enough. Still, this is a viable option to remove a lot of garbage installed by the factory (and you might have installed it yourself) and it does its job without disturbing your personal files.

You can start by opening the Start Menu and looking for "New Start," then clicking on the "Device & health performance" option that appears. Click the "Additional Info" link, then click "Start." The steps from there are quite straight forward.

Buy PC Surface

Manufacturers like Dell and Lenovo installed bloatware to make extra money from every computer they sell. They sell PCs almost at a cost, which means they make a little money from you and must redeem it elsewhere. The program creators that you find on your computer are paid to be there.

But Microsoft does not have such considerations. So the closest thing you can get to PC Signature today is a Surface device. They have a clean version of Windows installed, without an antivirus or cleaning program. (image source: ymgerman/Shutterstock).

Surface Go starts with Windows S, which won't run desktop programs, so Microsoft can't put it on a PC if desired. Unfortunately, Microsoft added ads in the form of applications to the Windows Start menu, but that was practically unavoidable. You will see this Start Menu ad on all Windows PCs, even if you make a PC and install Windows yourself. The good news is that you can quickly cancel the installation or uninstall it by right-clicking the application and selecting "Unlock Start" or "Uninstall."

The disadvantage here is that the Surface lines are mostly premium devices that have premium costs. The Surface Pro 6 starts at $ 899 (without a keyboard), while the Surface Studio starts with $ 3500 which is tempting. The only exception is Surface Go, which starts at $ 400, but the processor on this device is very slow and won't be useful for anything intensive like editing videos or photos.

Build your own PC

If you make a PC, the manufacturer cannot put extra on your machine because you have stopped it. Building a PC is not as easy as it seems, partly because over time the process has been streamlined.

Build your own pc.

Building your own desktop PC also has the added benefit of getting the cleanest Windows installation possible. You usually will not save a lot of money (it's hard to beat the massive price that the producer makes on the component), but you have to decide where the money is spent. Don't care about fancy cases? Don't get it. Spend extra money to get a bigger hard drive. Does not need a processor that is so strong, but wants a larger SSD? No problem; it's all under your control. The main disadvantage to building a PC is that you have to handle guarantees for each part that you install, as opposed to a store-bought system with a warranty that covers everything. And if you need a laptop, then you have to buy it - making the laptop impossible.

Clean Install Windows with the Media Creation Tool

The nuclear option is to reinstall Windows from scratch. Using the Fresh Start tool may be an easier and better choice, but a clean installation might be better if your copy of Windows shows bad behavior.
